Colouring Questions
What are the best markers to use to colour my pillows or zip pouch?
You can colour the pillows and zip pouches using any fabric markers but we recommend you use the It’s O.K. It’s Art Dual Tip Markers, which feature a broader tip for colouring larger areas and a fine tip for perfectly colouring all of the tiny details (and minimizing accidental bleeds!).
Do I have to colour it?
While we think you will have a blast colouring your pillow or zip pouch you can use your items both coloured and uncoloured. You do you!
How do I blend colours?
We have just released our It’s O.K. It’s Art. Blending Marker that you can add to your order and is ideal for getting a clean blend on any of your It’s O.K. It’s Art. colouring products. You can also watch artist Emily demonstrating some blending techniques on our Instagram Page under “Colour With Me”.
How do I prevent bleeding when colouring?
You will want to colour “soft and slow” to minimize bleeding- press markers lightly, don’t scrub the fabric, and carefully watch how the ink spreads. Too much scrubbing and rubbing will lead to ink bleeding when it doesn’t belong.
Can I fix a small bleed on my pillow or zip pouch?
Yes, to fix small bleeds dab a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol directly on the bleed. Press the spot immediately with a paper towel. Alternate dabbing rubbing alcohol and pressing with a clean cloth as needed, until colour is lifted. This is tricky, and requires some time and patience! You can also see this technique in use on our Instagram Page under “Colour With Me”.
Are the colours permanent?
You will want to use permanent fabric markers when colouring your pillow covers and zip pouches. It's OK. It's ART. Permanent Markers are excellent for colouring and blending colours. Follow the instructions included with your purchase or fabric markers to heat set the colours in the dryer (30 mins on high), which will ensure your colouring is permanent.
But can I use washable markers? I want to use washable markers.
Yes! Of course, you absolutely can use washable markers. In fact, if you've bought one of our items as a gift for a child under 8 years of age, we recommend washable markers so that the child can colour again and again. Let them practice while they develop their fine-motor skills! Washable markers are more prone to bleeding, colour transfer, will run upon contact with liquids, and will wash out of the fabric with laundering.
Can the pillows and zip pouches be washed after they are coloured?
Yes, once you have heat set your pillows and zip pouches, they are completely washable, and colour will be permanent if you use permanent fabric markers or It's OK. It's ART. markers. The longer you can leave between colouring and washing, however, the less likely the ink is to bleed or leach.
